We get lots and lots of emails from audio school students and graduates looking for jobs and internships. We are a small family owned 2 man operation and do not plan on hiring any help and we currently do not offer any internships. The best advice I’ve always given anyone asking for a job or internship is to try to start working as a freelance engineer, and we offer further discounted rates for qualified freelance engineers who bring in their own projects.

The reality of the industry is there are thousands of engineers and only a very small number of studios that are looking to hire help.  The best way for a motivated audio grad to actually find quality work (outside of opening their own commercial studio at a significant expense) is to find your own projects and rent out a studio space to record it at.  There is no better way to build your resume and impress your clients.  Many people have little home set ups for recording but  you would never be able to get the same drum sound as you would in a room like this….

….and an unfinished basement doesn’t go very far in impressing clients.  If you are looking for a place to complete your whole project, or just track drums for a project you will finish at your home studio, Chicago Sound Lab is the place for you.

So if you are interested in inquiring about becoming a freelance engineer at our studio, feel free to give us a call or email and we will work to do everything we can to accommodate you and help you get started.
